The Life Of Elvis Presley Is In The Theaters Soon!

The story is, of course, based on one of the most influential cultural icons of the last century. Selling more than 500 million records throughout his career, Elvis is still the best-selling solo recording artist the world has ever seen, long after his early death in 1977. According to Deadline, the film will highlight the relationship between Elvis and his longtime manager. Tom Hanks will appear as Elvis’s manager, a former carnival worker who launched the King’s career in the mid-’50s by negotiating a contract for him at RCA—ultimately staying with Elvis until his death in 1977.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star Austin Butler beat out the likes of Harry Styles, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort for the film's lead role. Tom Hanks was cast as Elvis's longtime manager, Colonel Thomas Andrew Parker, while Olivia DeJonge landed a role as Priscilla Presley. Kelvin Harrison Jr, Alton Mason, Yola, Hank Snow, and Jimmie Rodgers signed on to make guest appearances as B.B. King, Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Hank Snow, and Jimmie Rodgers, respectively. Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery and Maggie Gyllenhaal are also slated to appear in the film.

Elvis is Luhrmann's first film since 2013's The Great Gatsby. The filmmaker co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Bromell (The Get Down), Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!), and Jeremy Doner (The Killing).

The first trailer was released in mid-February. In the second trailer released two weeks ago, we can see more details about the movie. The film was screened at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The vision date of "Baz Luhrmann's Elvis" is June 24, 2022.
