Details You Need To Know About The Movie “The Shining”

The legendary horror movie The Shining, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, tells a story of insanity.

Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duvall and Danny Lloyd, this movie is about some supernatural events that develop after writer Jack Torrance takes care of the Overlook Hotel, which is closed during the winter season, and moves to the hotel with his family.

Stanley Kubrick secretly gave messages to the audience in all his works. Therefore, it is necessary  to watch the Kubrick films carefully in order to understand the film better. In this article we see the details about “The Shining” movie.

The Overlook Hotel Is Actually a Native American Cemetery

The hotel is built on top of the Indian cemetery and represents the Native American genocide by America. Indian motifs are seen everywhere in the hotel. In fact, Danny’s retraction of his steps in order to lose track of him in the snow is an Indian technique of losing track. The Blood scene in the elevator is a sign that the Native American genocide was suppressed and never mentioned. Also, as the name of the hotel “Overlook” means “look from above” in English, the hotel represents America. Even in one scene, we see our character Jack Torrance looking down on the labyrinth

Overlook And America

The term “overlook” means that America thinks it has everything, but in fact does not even see what is under its nose. Supporting this is the scene where Jack Torrence could not find his son Danny in the labyrinth and froze to death at the end.

A Country Built On Genocide

In the scene where Jack character (Jack Nicholson) and Mr. Grady are talking at the sink, the upper part of the washbasin is white and the lower part is red. White denotes well-being and red denotes blood. This shows that America is a country built on blood. Also, the name Grady comes from the word “greed”, meaning “greed / ambition”.

Final Photo

Although the exact meaning is still unknown, one theory is that Jack Torrence’s arms in this photo are in the same position as the evil leader Babhomet. But Stanley Kubrick didn’t explain it at all, as he didn’t want the film to be understood.
